Dear Babs

I live on Mayne Island and found myself in Vancouver last week and on our way down the hill to Granville Island, when my friend and I spotted your store. I was a little apprehensive to enter since what could "real women" look like on Granville street?

When we entered, we were immediately welcomed by an absolutely stunning woman, who in the typical retail world, would have snubbed women who have curves. To the contrary, she couldn't have been warmer or more helpful.

In short we both left the store having spent far more money than we had ever imagined. We left feeling like we were special and had been treated like queens therefore we spent like queens.

The good feeling stayed with us for the whole day and I can’t explain how unique an experience that was for us.

Yours is a special, special place and I shall be telling everyone I know how beautiful your clothes are and how they make me feel beautiful too.

So grateful to you and your kin (the babkins) for creating such great inclusive fashion.

Finally. Your revolutionary and simple approach. 4 basic shapes... condensed and expanded. And that is all we are. All we have ever been. No judgement. Just what is.

Finally. After a lifetime of painfully limited clothing options. After being told in 5 million little ways...supposedly subtle...yeah right....about as subtle as a frying pan over the head....told that I don't 'measure up', or 'fit in' to the current narrow margins of what is acceptable.

Finally. After so many years of 'settling'. Spending my hard earned $$ on clothing that kinda/almost/sorta works...but not. Ultimately I was buying the collective culture's fear and disowned aggression being expressed through 'fashion'...people not wanting to make larger women look and feel great about themselves. Imagine having to drape ourselves in that crap.

Finally. I have built a wardrobe that I feel truly expresses who I am. For the first time Babs. The first time. Happy? No shit.

You are doing a wonderful wonderful thing Babs. Breaking down the walls. Unifying. Celebrating the diversity. We are all so strange and beautiful. Each and every one of us.

I have been checking out your website and was happy to see that you got such a great response from women! It was inspirational reading what women wrote about themselves and the relationship they have with their bodies. I like what you stand for and how you conduct your business - I only wish more of the women's fashion industry shared your philosophy and women all over would be so much happier and less neurotic about their bodies.

I got home safely and have excitedly hung up my new purchases. I checked out your website so now I know where to go to shop.

I was pleased and impressed to see that you also do some work with the women in Laos, Vietnam, etc. One of my desires, once I really retire is to do some volunteer work in developing countries.

A quick note to let you know how much I am LOVING the beautiful teal silk top I picked up when Kathryn McCormick and I dropped in for our tipsy shopping expedition back in March when I was there for the Wine Festival. Actually, I wore it last night to the opening of "The Treasures of China" exhibit at the museum of Civilization in Ottawa and felt fab!!

Just a quick note, I had a lot of fun shopping with you today. I've been so busy growing my company, and working in the north on rigs, that I think I completely forgot how to dress. It was nice to be around such quality. Off to Norway in the morn, will be in touch when I get back, thanks for the amazing outfits. I've tried them all on again ...Fabulous.
